In 2024, this septuagenarian master craftsman drew inspiration from classic decorative elements to produce several tea cups that embody both practical utility and artistic value. Among them, the *Phoenix Cup* stands out as particularly remarkable. With its exquisite form, elegant motifs, and the embodiment of traditional aesthetic essence within a compact size, it is truly a palm-sized treasure.

The *Phoenix Cup* captivates with its unique artistic charm. Adopting the classic small-round-cup shape, it features two raised bands at the contracted neck—a masterful touch—while its deep, slightly bulging body combines ergonomic comfort with classical beauty. The recessed foot adds dignified poise. The cup is adorned with meticulously arranged small circular patterns that complement its overall form. Most striking are the lifelike twin phoenix motifs, their fluid lines and vivid expressions seemingly ready to take flight. This artistic style shares a common lineage with Master Kou’s award-winning decorative piece *Dragon and Phoenix in Harmony*, which earned the "Heritage Craftsmanship Award" at the First China Traditional Ceramic Art Biennale. The *Phoenix Cup* not only preserves the essence of traditional motifs but also reinterprets them through a modern aesthetic lens, fully showcasing the master’s profound understanding and distinctive vision of traditional art.

In crafting this piece, Master Kou perfectly integrated the jade-like texture unique to "Jianbai Porcelain" with his superb carving technique. Every step—from material selection and wheel-throwing to engraving and glazing—bears witness to decades of accumulated expertise. The phoenix motifs, in particular, maintain the solemn elegance of traditional patterns while gaining dynamic vitality through delicate knife work, as if instilling the static porcelain with a sense of living rhythm. This steadfast dedication to tradition, paired with innovative spirit, lies at the heart of Master Kou’s artistry, making the *Phoenix Cup* a rare gem among contemporary small-scale "Jianbai Porcelain" works.
