Online Interview (AIME Onboarding)</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Today was the official start of my internship with AIME, and I participated in the online interview sessions. Because I had already browsed AIME’s website and had experience in sociology fieldwork back in China, I was genuinely excited to step into this new cross-cultural environment.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Coming to Australia for a second Master’s in Social Work wasn’t just about professional growth — it was also about testing a concept I’ve long been exploring: cultural energy. Can culture act as a kind of energy that builds confidence, connects communities, and shifts systemic injustice? AIME’s work seems to ask the same questions, and I’m hopeful this internship will help me explore some answers. </p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size:20px;">1. Hoodie Economics:當(dāng)“關(guān)系”成為核心貨幣</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">下午的學(xué)習(xí)聚焦于Jack Manning Bancroft的《Hoodie Economics》。</p> <p class="ql-block">初讀這個(gè)書(shū)名時(shí),我曾誤以為是關(guān)于亞文化經(jīng)濟(jì)的研究,翻開(kāi)后才發(fā)現(xiàn),它更像一場(chǎng)對(duì)傳統(tǒng)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)的溫柔反叛。<b style="color:rgb(237, 35, 8);">“經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)應(yīng)反映我們珍視的事物,而非僅僅是我們售賣的東西”</b>——這句核心觀點(diǎn)像一塊投入湖面的石子,在我腦海里漾開(kāi)層層漣漪。</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">最觸動(dòng)我的是那句:“我們不需要修復(fù)人,我們需要改變那些看不見(jiàn)他們的系統(tǒng)?!边@讓我想起在湘西記錄老拳師口述史時(shí)的經(jīng)歷:當(dāng)主流視角將譚氏苗拳視為“落后的傳統(tǒng)”時(shí),當(dāng)?shù)厍嗄暌矟u漸羞于承認(rèn)這份文化遺產(chǎn);而當(dāng)我們用數(shù)字化手段還原其歷史價(jià)值,用課間操的形式嵌入校園生活后,年輕人眼中的光芒便重新亮起。原來(lái),<b style="color:rgb(237, 35, 8);">中澳語(yǔ)境下的“賦能”,本質(zhì)上都是對(duì)“看見(jiàn)”與“認(rèn)可”的渴望。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Bancroft提出的“關(guān)系型經(jīng)濟(jì)”概念,與譚必友教授的“文化能量說(shuō)”形成了奇妙的共振。兩者都拒絕將人簡(jiǎn)化為“服務(wù)對(duì)象”或“經(jīng)濟(jì)單元”,而是相信:<b style="color:rgb(237, 35, 8);">當(dāng)文化認(rèn)同被激活,當(dāng)人與人的聯(lián)結(jié)足夠深厚,群體自身就會(huì)生長(zhǎng)出解決問(wèn)題的力量。</b>這讓我對(duì)接下來(lái)的實(shí)習(xí)有了更清晰的方向:不是帶著“解決方案”而來(lái),而是帶著傾聽(tīng)的耳朵與共情的心,成為文化能量流動(dòng)的見(jiàn)證者與橋梁。 </p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size:20px;">1. Hoodie Economics – Learning and Reflection </b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Today I learned about Hoodie Economics, a powerful book by Jack Manning Bancroft. The core idea is simple but transformative: <b>“Economics should reflect what we value, not just what we sell.”</b></p> <p class="ql-block">One quote that stayed with me was:</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><i>"We don’t need to fix people. We need to change the systems that don’t see them."</i></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><i>— Hoodie Economics, Jack Manning Bancroft</i></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">This directly challenged the dominant approach that measures value based on productivity or financial contribution. Instead, Bancroft suggests that the economy can be <b>relational</b>, <b>cultural</b>, and <b>imaginative</b>, where human connection is the main currency.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Another concept that resonated with me is the <b>"Imagi–Nation"</b> as a systemic alternative, where creativity and story are used to rebuild social logic:</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><i>"We build with the tools of culture, imagination, and mentoring. This is our infrastructure."</i></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">This helped me reflect more deeply on my original question in Section 1: Can culture be a form of energy that builds confidence, solidarity, and social equity?</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">My answer now feels clearer. Through Bancroft’s writing, I see that culture is not an "add-on" to development — it is the <b>starting force</b>. When systems are designed with relationships and cultural expression at the center, they become regenerative rather than extractive. This aligns closely with social work’s commitment to <b>person-in-environment</b>, <b>anti-oppressive practice</b>, and <b>community-led empowerment</b>.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">It also challenges me to rethink what I value in my own work: Am I trying to “support people” within broken systems? Or am I willing to <b>co-create</b> new ones, even if they look very different from the mainstream?</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size:20px;">2、《Sea the Weed》:被誤讀的“雜草”與文化的韌性</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">傍晚觀看的短片《Sea the Weed》,用詩(shī)意的鏡頭語(yǔ)言給了我更深的沖擊。沒(méi)有旁白的刻意說(shuō)教,只有海草在洋流中自在舒展的畫(huà)面,搭配那句低語(yǔ):“<b style="color:rgb(237, 35, 8);">我們是雜草。你試圖將我們拔出,但我們總會(huì)回來(lái)。更強(qiáng)韌,更狂野,無(wú)處不在。</b>” </p> <p class="ql-block"> “雜草”的隱喻讓我心頭一震。這不正是邊緣文化與弱勢(shì)群體的生存狀態(tài)嗎?<b style="color:rgb(237, 35, 8);">在湘西,譚氏苗拳曾被視為“難登大雅之堂的土功夫”;在澳洲,原住民文化長(zhǎng)期被主流敘事邊緣化。但短片里的海草,從未因“雜草”的標(biāo)簽而停止生長(zhǎng)——它是“海洋的根基,生命的起點(diǎn)”,只是未被看見(jiàn)。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">這讓我反思過(guò)去的田野工作:當(dāng)我們帶著“保護(hù)”或“改進(jìn)”的心態(tài)介入時(shí),是否也在無(wú)意中扮演了“拔草人”的角色?是否忽略了那些看似“不起眼”的文化實(shí)踐中,早已蘊(yùn)含著自洽的生存智慧與韌性?AIME選擇用這樣一部短片作為新人培訓(xùn)的內(nèi)容,或許正是在提醒我們:<b style="color:rgb(237, 35, 8);">社會(huì)工作的第一步,不是“修復(fù)”,而是“看見(jiàn)”——看見(jiàn)那些被主流價(jià)值遮蔽的光芒。 </b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size:20px;">2. “Sea the Weed” – Video Reflection </b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">This evening, I watched the AIME short film Sea the Weed. It’s not a documentary or educational piece in a conventional sense — it’s poetic, metaphorical, and nonlinear. But precisely because of that, it moved me.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">One of the most striking lines from the narration was:</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><i>"We are the weed. You try to pull us out. But we come back. Stronger. Wilder. Everywhere."</i></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">This made me pause. The “weed” becomes a symbol of people, cultures, and systems that are <b>rejected by dominant narratives</b> — those who don’t fit the mainstream image of productivity or perfection.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">In the video, there’s a powerful visual of seaweed flowing freely in water, untouched by man-made design. The narrator speaks over this:</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><i>"Seaweed isn’t a weed. It’s the base of the ocean. The beginning of life. You just didn’t see it."</i></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">This was personally meaningful for me. As a person from a different cultural background, engaging in a cross-cultural internship in Australia, I often wonder: Who decides what is valuable? Whose story gets told?</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">In past social work fieldwork (especially in rural China), we were often taught to “help modernize” or “improve” local practices — which now I realize was sometimes a form of cultural flattening. Sea the Weed made me question: Were we actually helping? Or were we failing to see the <b>organic systems of value</b> already present?p</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Now, I’m learning to let go of the desire to “fix” and instead ask:</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b><i> How do we listen better?</i></b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b><i> How do we protect what’s already wise, even if it doesn’t look like Western knowledge?</i></b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"> How can I support models like AIME, which honour cultural logic rather than erase it?</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">The video doesn’t give answers — it gives <b>permission to feel</b>, to question, and to imagine differently. As a future social worker, I think this is what we need more of.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size:20px;">3、IMAGI-NATION:在想象中搭建的文化橋梁 </b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><b> Exploring the IMAGI-NATION Platform</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">I also explored the IMAGI-NATION platform. Honestly, it was a bit difficult to understand at first — very conceptual, with layered meanings. But what I did grasp felt meaningful:</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">It’s a living version of Hoodie Economics, built on imagination, relationship, and culture.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">It doesn’t follow a top-down model — instead, it encourages co-creation, decentralisation, and trust.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">It even plans its own conclusion in 2033 — which suggests that legacy and sustainability are more important than permanence or profit.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">I plan to revisit the platform tomorrow more carefully, especially the videos and city-building metaphors.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"> <b>Looking Ahead: Sea the Weed Activities</b></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">At the end of the month, there will be an opportunity to engage directly with AIME’s Sea the Weed campaign. I hope to participate in person — not just to observe, but to interact, reflect, and expand my understanding of relational work in real time.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">Before then, I’ll keep learning.
